An elevator speech is when you get on an elevator and you find out an agent or editor is on the elevator with you. You need to get them interested in your book before the elevator gets to the first floor. You need to summarize the book in just a few words, but in words that will interest them. Whenever you tell somebody about a book, you want to include the motivations of the main character. That's what drives the book.
