The Tower. by Ste Ross
Summary
Remember when you were young and didn't want to sleep at night? Maybe you wanted to show you were old enough to stay up late, perhaps you were scared of just what would appear when the lightswitch was clicked and you were plunged into darkness......parents always had a veiled threat, an incentive or promise to see you off to sleep?
Imagine if you will that one of these tales turned out to be true, that later in life with the wisdom of experience and years, in an act of serendipity, you stumbled up someone or something from your childhood made manifest, it was real and tangible. How would you react? Would you flee or would the inquisitive child within you urge you on to discover the truth?
The short story, The Tower, is set as all my stories are, in the fictional American city of Meddleton sometime in the 1930's. Its a port city with the Atlantic on its east coast and sprawling hills and meadows to the west, on the surface it appears to be like any other small affluent city, yet underneath lies the sinister, the weird, the unexplained.
Who is the man in the tower? Why is the tower there? What power does it hold?
All will be revealed eventually.
